Austin Trail of Lights
The Trail of Lights grand gala is starting this Sunday, December 11th and there's even a little opening parade:

If you have not been, it is a pretty enjoyable event. I don't even have kids but watching the zillions around you freaking out over the many twinkling lights will probably get you in the "holiday spirit" more than the lights (it's quite a lot cuter than watching them ask the mall santa for latest ps20). There is also a big tree 155 feet tall on the other side of Barton Springs road that gets you kinda sick if you spin underneath it and look up. It's so big, you can see it from Mopac.

And except for parking or a bus ride, it is free to take a stroll through the Trail of Lights.
